A clinical comparison of purified bovine and purified porcine insulins.

Twenty four patients with established insulin dependent diabetes treated with twice daily soluble and isophane bovine insulins were changed to equivalent doses of either purified bovine Neusulin and Neuphane (Wellcome) or purified porcine Actrapid and Monotard (Novo) insulins. After 6 months treatment the porcine group showed a 35% fall in insulin binding antibodies and a 14% reduction in insul...

Lipohypertrophy and lipoatrophy complicating treatment with highly purified bovine and porcine insulins.

Lipoatrophy and lipohypertrophy were the most frequently reported local complications of conventional insulin therapy. Early reports following the introduction of highly purified insulins suggested a reduction in the frequency of lipohypertrophy and lipoatrophy. Since highly purified insulins have been in common usage for 10 years, the present frequency of these complications was assessed in a ...

Presence of matrix-specific antibodies in affinity-purified polyclonal antibodies.

In general, antigen affinity columns made with commercially prepared activated affinity supports bind antibody specific for the coupled antigen. Nonetheless, in some cases affinity purification may yield antibodies to molecules other than the molecule of interest. In this report, we demonstrate such an occurrence: an antibody which adsorbs to an Affi-Prep 10 affinity matrix was found in the ser...

Total glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1) levels in diabetic children.

Total glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1) levels from capillary blood were studied retrospectively during a 1-year period in 148 diabetic children aged between 1.9 and 16.8 years. The clinic range for HbA1 was 6.7 to 22.2% and the results were normally distributed (mean +/- SD 13.2 +/- 2.8%). The normal range in non-diabetics using this method is 4.9 to 8.0%. Results from children who had had diabe...
